The Salvage Diver Qualification is the second step in becoming a master diver. Though it is an underrepresented profession, the military encourages people to pursue a career. Salvage divers spend one to three years completing a series of tasks that include correcting equipment deficiencies, welding, and even creating dual-charged explosive devices.
For several years, the 511th Engineer Dive Detachment has been preparing to elevate to the salvage diver rate. Recently, the unit conducted a Salvage Dive board on Feb. 1-2, 2017. The two-day event consisted of a formal interview and practical exercises.
